Advisory for Financing Access

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) face challenges in obtaining financing/loan from Financial Institutions (FIs)/ Developmental Financial Institutions (DFIs) due to lack or absence of financial records (bank statements or profit and loss statements). Besides weak financial literacy, MSMEs without collateral or poor credit track records may find it challenging to secure business financing.

Through the CGC Developmental Programme, our Financial Advisory Team (FA Team) assists MSMEs who are unable to obtain a financing/loan.The FA Team conducts comprehensive review of loan / financing application by the MSMEs to identify the gaps and provide advice as well as coaching to improve their financial literacy and strengthen their eligibility for future applications.

The FA Team also advises on alternate financing options such as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Financing companies for applications of loan/financing declined by the FIs/ DFIs.

Our FA Team also refers MSMEs to the various capacity building agencies. These agencies are able to help build the MSMEs capabilities and improve their shortfalls.

The main objective of the FA Team is to increase the number of MSMEs obtaining financing/loan. The team broadens the options for MSMEs by collaborating with alternate financiers and capacity building agencies. The progress of MSMEs is consistently tracked and our FA Team is constantly looking forward to help them in their entrepreneurial journey.

Roles of the Financial Advisory Team

  1. Conduct comprehensive review and diagnosis on unsuccessful applications by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which includes failure in obtaining product match and/or rejection from FIs/ DFIs.
  2. Provide financial advisory to:
    • Improve MSMEs financial literacy on the importance of maintaining good financial record and repayment track record.
    • Recommend alternate financiers such as Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Financing companies or Other Financing Agencies that may able to provide alternate financing to MSMEs.
  3. Provide business coaching to improve and rectify MSMEs' shortfalls and recommend them to Capacity Building partners on matters related to:
    • Financial: bookkeeping, costing, budgeting, projections, cash flow
    • Credit: common credit evaluation criteria
    • Business: business model and business plans development

Advisory for Market Access

Market Access Advisory collaborates with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to equip them with the right knowledge and skills for local and international market expansion via online and offline channels. The Market Access Advisory provides a two-pronged approach for interested MSMEs which namely the Advisory Workshops and Access To New Markets.

The Advisory Workshop is a knowledge sharing session by subject matter experts on latest information and business trends. This is to assists MSMEs, keeping them abreast of new strategies and effective ways to do business. MSMEs learn tips for successful online sales and services, digital marketing, branding, product certifications and Industrial Revolution 4.0.

Once the MSME is ready, the Market Access Advisory directs them to paths leading to new markets for them. Locally, we assist MSMEs to tap into hypermarkets and pharmacies, opening up opportunities for new sales distribution.

Internationally, we assist MSMEs by partnering with agencies like MATRADE, opening up wider opportunities for cross border markets. We enabled our MSMEs to participate in international trade exhibitions like the Canton Fair and the China ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO). CGC International BizMatch conducts customised business matching with our counterparts in the ASEAN region.

We customise specific and relevant coaching sessions on product packaging and even conduct sales pitch to buyers, helping our MSMEs with their gaps. Our advisory services assist MSMEs to meet the needed qualifications, certifications or criteria, ensuring smooth transition into the new markets.

  1. Provide Advisory - Assess gaps of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and recommend relevant knowledge and market access opportunities.
  2. Advisory Workshops - Provide suitable knowledge sharing platform to enhance SMEs development.
  3. Access New Markets - Facilitate growth of SMEs with suitable market access and intervention programme to enhance products and services.
